This song is a bit out of this blog's realm, but some of my discoveries lately have made me want to break down the genre barriers I put on myself for this blog. Mario M creates a great blend of beautiful ambient and piano scapes combined with D&B- drum and bass. This is one of those songs that your laptop speakers won't do justice.

Patrick O'Hearn

Lia has been playing this song over the past few months and every time I asked her who the artist was I forgot to write it down. I finally got around to exploring Patrick O'Hearn's ambient collection and have been very impressed. Especially with this track, it's so ethereal, and it brings back great memories for me.

One Year Later/ Siberian Islands

This is wild. Today of all days, I decided to breathe life back into this blog. Today is October 20th, 2013 and I just noticed that my last blog entry was October 20th, 2012. I'm going to take that as some sort of sign that resurrecting this blog was meant to be. I took the time to look back at some of the comments people have made over the past year and it inspired me to start sharing my musical discoveries once more. I've been lucky to come across some great groups who have posted their music in response to my entries. One group reached out to me back in May, they go by the name of Siberian Islands. They are a "two-piece outfit that combines retro sounds with ambient, 8-bit tunes, breakbeat and loads of real instruments." This is great stuff, definitely refreshing and exactly what I needed to hear today. You can listen to their entire album on Bandcamp and find a higher quality version of this song there as well. Enjoy and I'm excited to get this going again!

Little People

"We Are But Hunks of Wood" is The Anglo-Swiss producer's second full release. He took a new direction with this album, and I like it. Not a typical Quiet Ambient artist, but these instrumental trip-hop beats are too good to pass up. Watch in 1080p for full effect. Below I also posted his Start Shootin' remix which I've been listening to on repeat.

Sun Devoured Earth

Time to breathe some life back into this blog. I'll attempt to do so with Sun Devoured Earth, a Latvian solo project. This guy knows how to create a mood, and he does it so eloquently by meshing gloomy dream pop with elements of shoegaze and post-metal. Seems a bit complicated, whatever it is, I can't stop listening to it.

Mooncake

Happy 4th of July! It's getting pretty pathetic how little I have been posting lately, but I'm not going to make another promise to post weekly, I've tried that and failed. But anyways, Mooncake! An incredible post-rock band from Russia. I guess I should be posting an American band on this great day, but this track is too good to pass up. Check out the acoustic and the original!

I don't think I've featured a Greek artist yet. So, I am introducing Deadfile, well I think that this song is by Deadfile, it isn't on the Bandcamp or on Last FM, but it sounds strikingly similar to the rest of the artist's tracks. Download the free seven album track on Bandcamp.

Lights Out Asia. Revisited.

The very first post of this blog was Lights Out Asia. And now I return to the Milwaukee based trio because their album Hy-Brasil is going to be released on June 5th! (Although it has already leaked on the internet somehow).Lights Out Asia has continually amazed me since I first heard “Radars Over the Ghosts of Chernobyl” four years ago. They have been in my top five ever since. Their last album, In the Days of Jupiter, was my least favorite album so far and I didn’t quite know which direction they would move after that, but this album is their best so far. I have a feeling it’s going to consume me for the next few months. This album will take you elsewhere, hopefully to the mythical fog cloaked island it’s named after. This song and video absolutely blew me away.

Leech is an Experimental Post-Rock outfit that blows my mind. New and refreshing! I don't have too much information on them, but check out their album "If we get there one day, would you please open the gates?"

The Gentleman Losers

The Gentleman Losers consists of two brothers who have been making music together since their early teens. The Finnish duo bring a fresh sound to my ears, and I like it! This song is perfect for starting your day. They released a self-titled album in 2006 and "Dustland" in 2009 which has a neofolk twist to it. Check them out!

Mint Julep

Mint Julep is one of Keith Kenniff's many amazing projects (the others including Helios, my favorite, and Goldmund). The project is a collaboration between him and his wife Hollie, and to add even more confusion, he remixed this song under his old Moniker, Helios. His wife and him also record under their real names. So much to keep track of, but really, it's all good stuff!

The Abbasi Brothers

The Abbasi Brothers are an experimental ambient group based out of Manhattan. Their album "Something Like Nostalgia" is absolutely incredible. The album allows your mind to float far away. Perfect for drifting off into a deep afternoon sleep.I try to identify the emotion it invokes within. Nostalgia maybe?

Schiller

I have been listening to this song non-stop since last night. Not exactly the best idea, considering I often listen to songs until I can't stand them for a good month. Anyways, it's A bit quote unquote "tranced out" compared to my normal posts, but I really enjoy the song. The fan-made video is amazing too.

65daysofstatic

I have had a few 65daysofstatic albums on my computer that a friend gave to me about a year ago, and for some reason I hadn't gotten around to listening to them until today. I used to always listen to the song Retreat! Retreat!, and never moved on. But they have a slew of great songs; I really enjoy their experimental twist on post rock. I get into the second half of the song.

The New Post Rock group on Facebook introduced me to this band. I haven't been listening to very much post rock lately...that's gonna have to change.

The Calm Blue Sea

I have been slacking on music exploration! It's been a chaotic month with my fellowship, an additional internship with yourstory.in, and ONCE AGAIN...job hunting. My plan is to move to San Francisco in the Spring after I finish up in India. SF has good music, good food, and good skateboarding. What else could I want? Anyways, the point being, I'm slacking. I need a schedule! So from now on I am going to force myself to update this blog every Monday and Friday, time to step it up. Look out for new music, and while you are at it, have a listen to The Calm Blue Sea
