Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson

Goodbye 2010, you were the best year of my life. Cheers to many great years to come. I guess this is the last song of the year, amazing how it can express so much without words.

Félperc

I was stumbling through a friend's last fm page (check out his music blog here: Wanderingmusicphile) and I came across Félperc, an incredible post-rock solo project from Hungary. I can't find much information on Félperc, but I do know you can find a link on his last fm to a free download. Enjoy the New Year with another song to add to the playlist!

Our Ceasing Voice

Depressing, introspective, and yet incredibly beautifully crafted music. Most of Our Ceasing Voices' songs are characterized by long atmospheric build ups and climatic explosions fused together in perfection.

Helios.

Another amazing artist to add to the ambient collection. This band reminds me a lot of Deaf Center, just a bit less electronic and added background vocals. Gotta put on the headphones for this one.

Deaf Center.

I just came across this band tonight, and had to immediately put them up. Deaf Center is a collaboration between two musicians from Norway. Some of their songs are characterized by dark ambiance and others are closer to modern composition. The first video is actually a Helios remix. Be patient with this song, it only gets better.

Heavy.

Caspian is a Post-Rock band hailing from Dupont, Massachusetts. This is not your typical Explosions in the Sky type of instrumental band. Don't get me wrong, I love Explosions, but Caspian offers a wider variety of sound amongst their songs. This track in particular gets heavy, which is what makes it so great. The Raven encapsulates the "beyond mellow" of Post-Rock.

Caspian is an American instrumental rock band from Beverly, Massachusetts. The band formed in Autumn of 2003 and played their first concert in August of 2004. After releasing their debut EP You Are The Conductor(Dopamine, 2005) in late 2005, the band spent most of 2006 touring The United States and Canada and writing their debut full-length record The Four Trees (Dopamine, 2007). “The Four Trees” was released in the U.S. on April 10, Japan on May 2 and in Europe in July of 2008. Heavy touring in North America and Europe ensued through 2008 while the band continued work on their 2nd LP, “Tertia”. Tertia (Mylene Sheath/Make My Day 2009) was released in September 2009 and was supported by 2 massive European tours, a 2 month North American run in spring of 2010, and the band’s first performances in China in July of the same year. In 2010, Caspian’s US record record label, The Mylene Sheath, re-issued You Are The Conductor and The Four Trees on a special 3XLP vinyl only set with new artwork and remasters of the original recordings. Currently the band has plans to tour in the autumn/winter of 2010 and continue writing their 3rd full-length album, to be released in 2012 worldwide. Sonically Caspian draws from a broad scope of influences ranging from the ambient sophistication of Eluvium and Brian Eno to the crushing fury of art-metalists such as ISIS and Tool. Emotively, the music of Caspian shares common threads with Sigur Ros, M83 and The Appleseed Cast.

The American Dollar

Two dudes from New York that know how to make good tunes. The American Dollar masters the fusion of ambient with intricate guitar. Check it out.

Started by high school friends John Emanuele and Richard Cupolo from Queens, NY in 2005, The American Dollar creates cinematic, electronica-tinged instrumental rock. The duo fuses processed drums, spacious keyboards and powerful organ swells with electric guitar and bass, creating deep sonic textures while maintaining the passion and energy of a live band. The swirling soundscapes build and swell, punctuated by glitchy beats, breathing and expanding into crashing guitars and soaring leads: precisely constructed symphonies for a new era.

July Skies

July Skies puts you at the exact place where the ocean meets the horizon, where water touches air, where Earth's atmosphere meets space. Listen to this track as you fall asleep and see where your mind takes you.

Welcome.

The Quiet Ambient is a look into several post rock and instrumental genres. Some of the music may be more experimental, downtempo, dark, or even doomy. The point is to help everybody expand their musical tastes and make some musical discoveries. A lot of post rock is too slow for many, but I believe if you give it a chance it captures the imagination and sparks something deep inside. Enjoy.

"The post-rock sound incorporates characteristics from a variety of musical genres, including ambient, jazz, electronica, and experimental. The traditional method of power chords is replaced with timbre and texture for guitar-play while the song and voice is abandoned by its ambience. The rebellious overtones of rock as we remember it is no longer the theme for post-rock groups. In fact, utilizing dub reggae, hip hop, and rave, post-rock manages to create an androgynous and softer means of subversion."

I will leave you all with one of my favorites, Lights Out Asia.

Download here: Lights Out Asia- Psiu! Puxa!

Lights Out Asia is a downtempo and post-rock musical project that was formed in early 2003 when Chris Schafer and Mike Ystad (both members of Aurore Rein) decided to work on music together. Recording in bedrooms and basements, the duo had written and constructed a dozen songs on Mike’s laptop by summertime. Thus was born ‘Garmonia’, Lights Out Asia’s first documented recording as a band. ‘Garmonia’ found itself in the willing arms of Sun Sea Sky Productions, and Lights Out Asia found themselves ready to play live shows.
